Dentures offer a practical solution for your missing teeth. There are different teeth replacement options available to you in modern dentistry, including full or partial dentures. At De Lucs Dental, LLC, our dental team, led by Dr. Gary Lucombe, works with you to improve and maintain optimum oral health. For some of our patients, that includes prosthetic teeth as a tooth replacement option.
What Are Dentures?
Dentures, also referred to as prosthetic teeth, are detachable replacements for missing teeth. They are fabricated from an acrylic plastic or metal alloy and are composed of artificial gums and teeth attached to a metallic frame. They are custom-designed to fit perfectly in your mouth and are secured to your gum and jawline.
Why You May Need Dentures?
If you opt not to replace missing teeth, it can lead to several complications, including:
- Difficulty chewing and biting
- Problems with speech
- Alterations to your facial appearance
- Teeth that shift
- An unattractive smile
- Progressive loss of bone
Types of Dentures
At De Lucs Dental, LLC, we offer two different dentures based on your specific requirements, including partial and complete dentures.
A complete denture is the option utilized when only a few natural teeth remain. In some cases, the remaining teeth are removed, and an entire arch of artificial teeth is used as replacements. These dentures are planned for either the upper or lower teeth and are held in position with adhesives.
A partial denture is advised when there are still some natural teeth remaining in the mouth. They fill the missing gaps between teeth and are fixed in position with metal clasps.
Over time the jawlines can change, causing a poor fit of the dentures. We can correct these faults through a relining process. It includes adding new base material to the side of your denture at the point where it meets your gums. The material will be matched with your existing denture so it does not rub and feels comfortable.
The artificial teeth and the denture plate can crack, chip, or even break, needing denture repair. We will quickly assess your needs and start on repairs straight away. Most emergency repairs can be accomplished within the same day.
